It’s not hard to see why someone would choose a destination wedding. After all, you are basically combining the wedding and the honeymoon. The obvious advantage is the savings. By choosing a lovely destination such as Hawaii for your wedding, you incorporate the costs of the wedding with the costs of the honeymoon.
Of course, the obvious drawback is that you will have to share your honeymoon with the wedding party. In most cases, family and friends can be counted on to give the happy couple the privacy they want. The most ideal situation would be for the wedding party to book their stay in Hawaii (or wherever) for only a few days and then the newly married couple can book their stay for a week or 10 days. This gives you the best of both worlds.
Another terrific advantage of a destination wedding is the sheer joy of having all your friends and family along for the fun. Imagine the memories and photos that you will make and take. This could elevate your special day to a whole new level.
When planning a destination wedding, one of the first things to decide is where you will go. It’s probably a good idea to discuss everything with close friends and family members. Ask them how they would feel about this and whether they have suggestions about a perfect destination. In many cases, everyone’s budget will be a key factor. Unless your family is wealthy, it will be important to select a destination that everyone can afford.
Hawaii is high on most people’s list, however this is an expensive choice. Hotels, food, and even sightseeing can be more expensive than other locations such as San Diego. San Diego has beautiful weather most of the time plus popular tourist attractions such as Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. There are many other great American cities that would make a wonderful destination for your wedding such as Las Vegas.
There are some beautiful places to visit in Central America as well. Imagine getting married on the beach at Costa Rica or Belize. During certain seasons of the year airlines may offer discounts on airfare. Many popular tourist attractions such as Cancun also have an off-season where accommodations are much cheaper.
Once you decide on the perfect destination for your wedding, the next step will be planning a wedding in a city that may be hundreds or thousands of miles away. It will take a lot of research, emailing, and phone calls. One advantage of choosing a popular destination is that there will probably be a number of hotels and other businesses that are already set up for such events.
You might also benefit from hiring a wedding planner and allowing her to make all the arrangements for you. If this idea will fit into your budget, then it can give you some peace of mind and allow you to relax and enjoy the entire process.
